Observed annually in October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities, past and present, and highlights supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices. In recognition of the important role that people with disabilities play in a diverse and inclusive workforce, the theme for NDEAM 2023 is “Advancing Access and Equity.”
In honor of NDEAM, we are excited to welcome Haben Girma as our featured speaker on October 18 at 12:00 p.m. PT / 3:00 p.m. ET for “A Conversation with Haben Girma, Disability Rights Lawyer, Author, and Speaker,” moderated by MoFo of counsel, Tushna Gamadia. Haben will discuss her career path as a Deafblind attorney, her disability advocacy work, and the importance of accessibility in education and technology. The first Deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School, Haben Girma is a human rights lawyer who has dedicated her career to advancing disability justice. In addition to being named a White House Champion of Change by President Obama, Haben has received the Helen Keller Achievement Award, a spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and a feature on TIME100 Talks. Haben believes disability is an opportunity for innovation, and she teaches organizations the importance of choosing inclusion.
