Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the many economic, political, and social achievements of women. Each year, a theme is chosen to highlight and celebrate the contributions of women. This year’s theme, “Valiant Women and the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced” recognizes the battle for women’s suffrage and is a continuation of 2020’s theme timed to commemorate the centennial of the women’s suffrage movement.
At MoFo, we are grateful for the women who refuse to stay silent in the face of gender discrimination to ensure more equitable rights. In addition to celebrating Women’s History Month, we also honored this year’s International Women’s Day theme, #ChooseToChallenge, with a special presentation from award-winning documentary filmmaker Shola Lynch. San Francisco Litigation partner Christin Hill hosted the conversation focused on Shola’s work, in particular her documentary Chisholm ’72: Unbought & Unbossed, which covers Shirley Chisholm’s 1972 campaign to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. We also reconnected with former MoFo partner Judge Rita F. Lin, who now serves as a Superior Court Judge for the County of San Francisco, about how her time at MoFo and how the support she received helped pave her way forward.
We are proud to have powerful women who are setting a positive example, shaking up the legal industry, and leading the way for the firm. In continuation of our Women’s History Month activities, we asked women from across MoFo what this year’s theme means to them, how they are challenging gender bias and inequality, and about who they’ve looked up to throughout their careers.
