What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
For me, it is an opportunity to take a moment and consider women around the world, many of whom are from very different backgrounds, living very different lives from me, and facing very different equality issues. It is a chance to think of ways to help these women take steps toward achieving better equality.
What advice would you give to the next generation of women who want to pursue a career in the legal industry?
I would say go for it! The key thing is to stay true to your core values. Values like kindness, integrity, and grit will take you far in this industry, regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman.
How have you seen MoFo embrace gender balance as a business priority?
MoFo ensures that gender balance is always on the agenda in a way that I have not experienced at other firms, such as how they decide who we hire for our teams, who we promote to partnership (and I am very proud that this year 50% of partner promotions were women), and who sits on our executive committees. They also invest women’s networking programs like the annual Women’s Summit. Here in London, the Women’s Affinity Group has been a great resource and often hosts a number of highly influential guest speakers.
