Dr. Julia Schwalm, a partner in MoFo’s Berlin office, is a member of our litigation practice. Julia’s impressive track record in representing national and international clients in large-scale, often cross-border disputes has helped her rise quickly through the ranks at MoFo, where she made partner this year. Her deep understanding of follow-on litigation and technology-based disputes sets her apart.
In addition to representing clients in all aspects of commercial litigation, she advises clients in commercial and distribution law, including dealer and agency agreements, as well as compliance matters, such as product liability and internal investigations. “I’ve advised on a broad range of products and industries, from aircraft engines to microchips, and love applying what I’ve learned to new areas,” Julia says.
Before joining Morrison & Foerster, Julia worked for one of the vice presidents of European Parliament in Brussels, and at an international law firm based in Spain. She also spent three years as a research assistant at the Institute for Private International Law and Civil Procedural Law at the University of Regensburg, where she earned her Dr. jur.

- She admits to being a foodie, choosing her vacation destinations based on food she would like to try.
- She served as legal guardian to a 16-year-old Pakistani refugee, who came to Germany unaccompanied, and went on to represent him in his asylum appeal after he turned 18.
- Julia defended a well-known German telecommunications company in eight parallel litigations, altogether equaling one of the largest civil antitrust claims matters regarding abusive practices.
- Julia loves dispute resolution because she can use all her skills: an eagle’s perspective for the overall strategy, an eye for detail, and her special talent for fact-finding if the case goes to court.
- She strongly believes in supporting younger women and in equal opportunity, so she is an examiner for the Second State Exam (the German equivalent to the bar exam, in which she herself as a young lawyer faced an exclusively male bench of examiners), and usually has at least one legal trainee in her team at any given time.
