MoFo Singapore Office Celebrates Fifth Anniversary by Giving Back

Morrison & Foerster celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Singapore office on November 23, 2018, by taking the opportunity to give back to the country’s community. At Willing Hearts, a Singapore charity run and supplied entirely by volunteers, the Singapore office’s lawyers and staff helped to prepare the 6,000 meals that are distributed every day of the year to low-income families, the elderly, and migrant workers in over 40 locations island-wide.

The MoFo team in the Singapore office also bonded over a delicious lunch at the APSN Café for All, an inspirational social enterprise run by trainees from the Association for Persons with Special Needs.

The celebration commemorated the notable work that MoFo’s Singapore team has accomplished over the last five years, including its representation of GLP Pte. Ltd. in the warehouse operator’s agreement to be acquired by a Chinese equity consortium for US$11.64 billion — reportedly the largest-ever private equity buyout of an Asian company by enterprise value. The deal garnered Morrison & Foerster several awards, including Asia Legal Awards’ 2018 M&A Deal of the Year in the Southeast Asia category.

The GLP Pte. buyout is just one of several groundbreaking transactions led by the MoFo Singapore office this year. The team also advised JT Group on its acquisition of Akij Group’s tobacco business for approximately US$1.476 billion—an M&A deal reported to be the largest in Bangladeshi history.

For this work and more, MoFo’s Singapore team has been ranked in Chambers 2019 Global Fintech Guide as a leading firm in Singapore for FinTech M&A/transactional work.

The team’s lawyers have been individually recognized, too. Daniel Levison, for example, has been ranked in Band 1 by Chambers Asia Pacific in 2019 and 2018. Eric Piesner, Craig Celniker, Jake Robson, Shirin Tang, and Yemi Tépé were all named “Best Lawyers in Singapore, 2018.” At the Client Choice Awards, Maria Steeples was recognized as 2018’s “M&A Lawyer of the Year in Singapore.” And the Asia Business Law Journal named Jake Robson and Shirin Tang “Singapore’s Top 100 lawyers 2018.”

Congratulations to Morrison & Foerster’s Singapore office on five years of stellar work. Your global colleagues wish you many more to come.
