MoFo lawyers in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area raced with their hearts on Saturday, June 9 at the 28th Annual Lawyers Have Heart 10K Race, 5K Run & Fun Walk. One of the largest 10K races in the region, the event has raised over $12 million for the American Heart Association since its inception in 1991, and brings together more than 300 organizations and over 6,000 runners and walkers in the Washington, D.C. legal community. The Morrison & Foerster Foundation proudly sponsors Lawyers Have Heart annually and registered 48 sneaker-clad MoFo participants to hit the course this year.
Crystal Kaldjob, associate in MoFo’s Financial Services Group, has raced in the philanthropic event for the last four years. Crystal is inspired by “the fact that so many lawyers get up early on a Saturday morning to support a good cause. It’s a strong show of support for the American Heart Association.”
In her first year running the 10K, she reached a fork in the course where the left sign read “5K” and the right sign read “10K.”
“It took a lot of effort for me not to pivot to the left,” says Crystal.
She appreciates seeing all of the creative logos and slogans on law firm t-shirts, but the real reward is indulging in post-race brunch.
MoFo litigation partner Steve Kaufmann has participated in the race for the past three years and enjoys greeting all of the people on the race course. There are many stretches where out and back portions run alongside each other, giving racers an opportunity to smile at those passing by. He is inspired by the support received from the D.C. bar and MoFo.
