Exposing Inhumane Conditions in Arizona Detention Centers

In January, Morrison & Foerster won an important victory on behalf of immigrants and asylum seekers subjected to inhumane conditions at immigrant detention centers near the Mexico-Arizona border.

A team of MoFo lawyers — including Colette Reiner Mayer, Harold McElhinny, Louise Stoupe, Kevin Coles, Pieter de Ganon, and Elizabeth Balassone — worked with the American Immigration Council, ACLU of Arizona, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the National Immigration Law Center to expose the inhumane and unconstitutional treatment of detainees held at a Border Patrol facility in Tucson.

“It felt like we were being treated as animals and not human beings,” said one detainee.

The harmful conditions in which detainees have been forced to live are documented in this video from the National Immigration Law Center.
